Ingenieurbüro Dr.-Ing. Achim Lohmeyer (IBAL), Germany
Main topics:
- Improvement of the German guideline on "Calculation of diffusion of traffic induced air pollution" within the concept of European Harmonisation.
- Improved description of the flow field in micro-scale models for built-up areas (including influence of slanted roofs)
IBAL is an SME (Small Medium Enterprise). with 90% of turnover within contract work and the remaining 10% within research projects. For more information about the company look at http://www.lohmeyer.de.
The contract work concerns determination of air quality, mainly by numerical modelling, but also by wind-tunnel measurements, in areas influenced by
- roads (in open country and cities)
- tunnel outlets
- rest areas
- parking lots
- underground garages etc.
About 50 studies per year are conducted, including complex topographical situations with valley drainage flows.
Research projects deal with intercomparison and validation of numerical models. To a minor extent, development of models.
The company is intensely involved in the development of the just appearing draft of the German guideline VDI 3782/8 "Calculation of diffusion of traffic induced air pollutants". We intend to improve this guideline within the concept of European Harmonisation utilising ideas and results of the TRAPOS-network. This will especially concern:
- optimisation of practical models
- improved description of the flow field in micro-scale models for built-up areas (including influence of slanted roofs)
- improved treatment of traffic induced turbulence
- determination of dispersion in the case of calm wind conditions
- improved treatment of NO-NO2-conversion
- practical handling of the new EU-directives for air quality
- transfer of meteorological information from remote sites to the area of interest
- wall heating influences
- effects of special inaccuracy of models
