Abstract
A study trip to USA and Canada was undertaken in October 2000 with support from the German Marshall Fund. The purpose of the trip was to learn about performance planning and performance indicators in the area of transportation and environment. The report describe findings from the trip in the following areas:
- how performance planning for transportation and environment is conducted in the US and Canada at federal, state and municipal level,
- to what extent performance planning serve as an instrument to integrate environmental and sustainability goals in transportation policy
- which specific indicators are used to measure the environmental sustainability of transportation systems and policies in the two North American countries.
