JAGTVEJ, Copenhagen

The Site

The street Jagtvej has two traffic lanes but often with two rows of cars on each of the lanes. The total traffic load is ca. 22,000 vehicles/day including ca. 3.5% heavy vehicles. The width of the street canyon is 25 m and buildings on both sides of the street are ca. 18 m high. Street orientation is 30 degree with respect to North.

The Measurements

A permanent air quality monitoring station (The Danish Urban Air Quality Network (LMP)) is located on the easterly side of the street Jagtvej.

View details of the street measuring location

The air quality measurements cover SO2, NOx, NO2, CO, benzene, toluene, xylene and TSP. Recently, measurements of size distribution of ultra-fine particles were initiated at this location. The container with the instruments is located on a parking lane, between the bicycle lane and the car lanes. The measuring height is 3.5m and the distance from the building walls is 5.7m.

Automatic traffic counts were performed during several months in the years 1994-95 and provided the vehicle flow in the street with differentiation between short and long vehicles. Additional manual counts were used for more detailed traffic inventory.

Urban background measurements are available from a monitoring site located on the roof of a 20m high building of the Copenhagen University (HCØ), just few hundred meters North of the street monitoring location. The urban background data cover NOx, NO2, O3 and CO. Meteorological data (wind speed, wind direction, temperature, global radiation and humidity) are measured from a 10m meteorological mast located on the roof of the university building. List of the locations from which the data are collected for this study is shown in Table 1.
