The Nation-wide Danish Monitoring Programme (BOP)

"The Nation-wide Danish Monitoring Programme" assembles information on nutrient input to the aquatic systems. Measurements are performed at 8 different locations. These locations are selected to represent coastal and island based areas and inland areas. At all sites precipitation is collected over half-monthly periods by bulk collectors. The samples are analyzed for their content of nutrients and metal ions. Furthermore, 7 stations are equipped with filter pack samplers to collect compounds in gas or in particle phase

The programme was started in 1989, and results from 7 years including 1995 data are reported in the annual report for 1995 (Skov et al. 1996). The report primarily deals with atmospheric nitrogen input to the Danish marine waters, focusing on the nitrogen input to the Danish straits, sounds and fjords (the inner Danish seas) with a total sea surface area of 37,470 km². Wet deposition is measured over half-monthly periods by bulk collectors and the samples are analyzed in the ATMI-Iaboratory. Gas phase components and particles are collected by the filterpack on filters and the filters are analyzed by the department.
