The group's key activities focus on research and consultancy services in population ecology, game biology, population dynamics and modelling of populations of mammals and birds in woodlands, the open country, wetlands and coastal zones. The group's activities are both related to game species and endangered, vulnerable and rare species.

Vital areas of research, monitoring and consultancy services:

 ·  Population ecology. The effects of changed cultivation methods, land use, recreational activities and climatic changes. Studies of flyways for waterbirds to determine connections between different breeding, moulting and wintering populations and impacts of offshore wind parks on birds. The group has international competence on the impacts of hunting disturbances on waterfowls. The research form the basis of setting up management plans and advice including species listed in the Habitat directive and the Danish red List.

 ·  Game Biology. Monitoring the population development of game species and the effects of hunting and game regulations including investigations in relation to a Danish action plan for reducing the amount of crippling of game. The group is responsible for: the Danish Game Bag Record and Wing Surveys, representing a substantial part of the national monitoring of game mammals and birds, preparation of data for revision of hunting seasons, monitoring of ducks, geese and swans, in coordination with Wetlands International.
