Other Arctic research at NERI

Department of Arctic Environment coordinates Arctic research, monitoring and environmental advise within NERI, although active research and monitoring takes place at and between other departments in NERI.

Department of Atmospheric Environment (ATMI) conducts studies and monitoring of pathways and deposition of aerial contaminants in the Arctic.

Department of Marine Ecology conducts studies and monitoring e of arctic marine ecology functioning and and structure, especially in relation to the evaluation of the effects of global climate change.

Department of Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology conducts monitoring of contaminant levels (especially POPs) in different arctic media and organisms.

Department of Freshwater Ecology studies the ecology of arctic freshwater lakes, especially in relation to the evaluation of the effects of global climate change.

NERI's Departments of Arctic Environment, Marine Ecology and Freshwater Ecologyparticipate in the monitoring program ZERO in Zackenberg, North East Greenland. The aim of the program is to study and monitor effects of global climate change in high arctic terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The Program co-ordinator is the Danish Polar Centre.

The Departments of Arctic Environment and Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology co-operate within the circumpolar Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program (AMAP). The overall aim of the program is to monitor and assess effects of environmental pollution levels in the arctic regions including effects on human health. The Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environment coordinates the Danish program.
