Ringed Seals
The ringed seal is distributed along arctic coastlines (for example in Greenland), the Baltic Sea
and the Japanese coasts in the Pacific Ocean. It can also be found in Russian and Finish freshwater
lakes. The ringed seal looks like the harbour seal, but is somewhat smaller. It can grow to a length
of 1.2-1.5 m and can weigh up to 100 kg. The fur is brown to grey, with small dark spots encircled
by lighter rings on the back. The ringed seal feeds on several species of fish, squids and crustaceans.
It reaches sexual maturity at an age of 5-7 years and can live to be 40 years or older in the wild.
