Humpback whale
Humpback whales are found in all the world's oceans, especially along the coast where
nutrient is abundant. In Greenland it can be found along both the East and West Coast.
The humpback whale is a large baleen whale, which attains lengths of 11-16 m and weighs
25-30 ton. The back of the whale is almost black, while the belly is light grey or white.
It has a very small dorsal fin, but have exceptionally long pectoral fins, much larger
than any other whale species. These can attain lengths of up to 1/3 the total body length.
The humpback whale feeds on krill and small schooling fish. Both sexes become sexually
mature at 2-5 years and may live for more than 50 years.
